Bringing Baby Home Workshop
Just found out you are expecting or just transitioned from a family of two to a family of three? We offer this workshop as a program for new parents experiencing the transition to parenthood.
Join us for a six week “journey” into parenthood as we examine how to successfully navigate through the peaks and valleys of marriage and family life. This six week series, designed for parents of infants up to five year olds, will cover the following topics:
Transition to Parenthood
These classes discuss the changes that are common during the transition to parenthood and gives you tools to use at home that will serve as a foundation for the challenges that parenthood brings. Couples will learn what to expect after having a baby, how to recognize the 10 reasons why the transition to parenthood can be difficult, 5 ways to build friendship, and the impact of relationship quality on parenting.
Managing Stress and Conflict Regulation
It’s not how often you fight with your partner that will determine the success of your relationship; it’s the way that you fight. Couples that build their relationship on a foundation of friendship and respect for one another have a powerful buffer for when rocky times hit. The focus of these classes will teach research-based tools for managing conflict and stress in order to maintain relationship satisfaction. Since conflict is unavoidable, it is important to realize that the effects of parental fighting have a strong (and mostly negative) impact on children. Couples will learn the four warning signs for stress, and why it is important to manage them, as well as steps to regulate conflict. Additionally, they will explore the impact and learn four ways to help a child after a fight.
Making the Magic Last
Couples will learn the research-based tools for keeping a relationship happy and satisfied as they enter parenthood. They will learn the reasons why relationships often have difficulty (and how to avoid them), the characteristics of a healthy relationship, and the tools for keeping a relationship strong. This class teaches the skills necessary to focus on the couple’s relationship, which in turn can increase the parent / child bond and give a child the best possible start.
This workshop is presented by Todd Sandel, MS, MFT
and Mazi Robinson, MS, LAPC who are both Certified Gottman Educators for the Bringing Baby Home Workshop.
